Helen Godfrey's Wire Sculpture has continued to flourish and improve since she won a bursary from Dorset Arts and Crafts some years ago.
With no formal training in the Arts, Helen crafted her original work in Papiere Mache, made in the lounge of her home! From those early beginnings she continued to experiment and was asked to exhibit her work at Garden Openings and Craft Exhibitions . Then one day at a Craft Fair where she was demonstrating, she discovered that people seemed to be more interested in the wire shape support than the papiere mache itself!
A few commissions encouraged her to continue, and she went on to create a whole menagerie of wire animals and birds. Helen’s work is developing all the time and currently she is very excited to be working on life size wire figures of men, women and children. All of Helen’s wire figures look fabulous in any landscape or garden. They are made from durable galvanised wire mesh which is ideal for permanent outdoor sculpture as it does not rust, is long lasting and just dulls in colour slightly with age. Helen also leads themed papiere mache projects in schools with children of all ages. Using plastic milk bottles as a base, they create anything from jungle scenes to the Changing of the Guard! Helen has also been running wire sculpture workshops for adults at Crumpets Farm, Lytchett Matravers, |
